Artist's Statement
I am a Bharatanatyam dance choreographer working in the San Antonio area for more than 20 years. My work has been presented locally, state-wide, in other states of the United States, as well as in the heart of the art form- Chennai, India- the city where bharatanatyam thrives and evolves. I use the dance form to communicate to the audience at various levels: 1) A visual and auditory experience that is rhythmic and exciting 2) An emotional experience that tugs at the heart making the audience question what they are viewing 3) An experience of recollection taking the audience on a trip through their past experiences as they reminisce 4) Bringing the audience back to the present when they realize that historical or mythological experiences mimic like experiences today.
