Since 2006, the Artist Foundation has granted over $550,000 to 102 San Antonio artists. The grants awarded this year will increase the number of artists affected to 112 and the amount of money awarded to $627,000. The awards are evident in new creative work shown at exhibitions and productions locally and beyond.
The purpose of the Artist Foundation is to identify, recognize and award outstanding San Antonio and Bexar County artists across a broad range of artistic disciplines.
All facets of the artist community of San Antonio have been touched and challenged to grow because of the Foundation's grants. AF isputting money directly into the hands of the artists here in San Antonio and have seen our investment leveraged by these artists within this community as they complete their projects. The grants have also created a ripple outside of San Antonio as artists take their projects to additional venues regionally, nationally and even internationally. This is great for San Antonio artists and great for our city's reputation as a world-class city for art and artists.
"The key to the Artist Foundation's success has been to keep its operation lean and laser-focused on its mission," says Bruce Bugg, Tobin Endowment Chairman and founder of the Tobin Grand Prize for Artistic Excellence, a $7,500 grant that is awarded to one of the selected artists.
