San Antonio Business Journal - September 9, 2011
Hot art and cool chicks. Pearl Brewery will offer both on Saturday, Sept. 17, with a curated exhibit of 30 of San Antonio's well-known female artists, titled Aguas Frescas.
Running from 7-10 p.m., the show benefits The Artist Foundation of San Antonio and is co-sponsored by the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"It will be the first of what I hope are many fine art events we host," says Elizabeth Fauerso, Pearl's chief marketing officer. "As an admirer of the wealth of women artists in our midst, it's a pleasure to feature them here."
Aguas Frescas features an art auction, cool tunes, and delicious bites from Chef Johnny Hernandez of La Gloria.
"All of these artists are outstanding and fresh," says Andy Benevides, artist and co creator of SMART (Supporting Multiple Art Resources Together) who curated the event. Benevides explains that his idea of curating an outdoor exhibition of work along the river was intended to conjure the idea of freshness.
Patricia Pratchett, Artist Foundation chair and co-founder, notes that The Artist Foundation has awarded $340,000 to 64 San Antonio artists over the past five years. The 2011 call for artist applications opens Sept. 1 and closes Oct. 15. Go to www.artistfound.org for more info.
