Arte y Pasión presents flamenco dancer Antonio Arrebola, performing with Tamara Saj, with Francisco J. Orozco “Yiyi,” cante and percussion, Steve Arispe, guitar, Friday May 20th at Carmen’s de la Calle Cafe, and Saturday May 21st at Espana Bar de Tapas. Arrebola hails from Málaga, Spain, having appeared in many acclaimed flamenco festivals in Spain where he performed alongside such artists as Mercedes Ruíz, Manuel Liñan, Belén Lopez, and the late revered cantaor Chano Lobato.
Antonio has also been recognized on the international scene, elating audiences in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Italy, Morocco, Canada, and the United States. Most prominently, he performed in Japan with the company of Yoko Komasutbara, sharing the stage with Antonio Márquez and Curro de Bormujo. He was also part of the Rafael Cortés Company, along with Domingo Patricio, Jose Lucía, and others, touring in Germany, Poland, and Switzerland. He also worked with the Maria Serrano Company in the show Flamentango in Canada, and, in addition, has toured in Europe with his own company. Antonio moved to New York City in late 2010 to continue to share his love and passion for the Art of Flamenco on this side of the Atlantic.
Antonio Arrebola marks his triumphant return to San Antonio this May for an encore performance following his debut in Texas this February. He was enchanted with the City of San Antonio and is looking very much forward to his return. This May’s performances are made with respectful acknowledgment to the Artist Foundation of San Antonio as a preview for the Tamara Saj production Arte y Pasión: de la Oscuridad a la Luz, scheduled this July at the Carver Theater. Tamara Saj is 2011 winner of the Artist Foundation of San Antonio Bernard Lifshutz Award for “Original Theatrical Production” and sole finalist for “Original Choreography.”
